Frequently Asked Questions

  • Christians remember Pentecost as the day when God’s Holy Spirit came to live inside the first followers of Jesus after his resurrection and ascension. This event is recorded in chapter 2 of the Acts of the Apostles. Pentecost is often referred to as the birthday of the Church. The Holy Spirit is God’s personal presence sent to enable us to live life with God and empower us for Jesus’s mission.

Before this, Pentecost was a Jewish festival that commemorated God’s gift of the Torah on Mount Sinai some fifty days after Passover. (Pentecost literally means “fiftieth.”)

  • There will be an extended time of music and singing as worship. There will also be a short message from scripture.
